ALDERLEY EDGE JUNIOR HOCKEY

A warm welcome to the 2013 / 14 Hockey Season

Next season promises to be as exciting as last  as we look to build upon the successes and make the most of the ever improving facilities at The Edge.

With the success of the GB Hockey teams at the Olympics still fresh in the memory last season, we have seen a huge increase in Junior membership and playing opportunities.

We look forward to seeing all our existing members return and to providing a very warm welcome to new members interested in trying Hockey or Alderley Edge Hockey Club for the first time.

Information for Children and their parents for the season 2013 – 14

Alderley Edge Hockey Club is widely acknowledged to have one of the best junior development programmes in the North of England and has a strong record in county, regional and national competitions.

The ‘Hockey Academy at Alderley’ has been awarded “Clubs First” accreditation by England Hockey Board which confirms the high standards applied to the provision of coaching and matches for our juniors - now in excess of 200 boys and girls.  We coach at THE EDGE HOCKEY CENTRE at The Ryleys playing field on Wilmslow Road, in Alderley Edge .SK9 7QN

The Club is committed to the individual development of all young members and demonstrates a developmental philosophy , provides junior-only coaching sessions weekly throughout the season for different age groups.

The Club provides regular competitive opportunities for the age groups coached and entry into local competition as appropriate.

The coaches responsible for overseeing the junior coaching programme are suitably qualified inline with England Hockey Boards recommendations.

The Club has a Level 2 coach or above as the ‘person in charge’ assisted by Level One coaches per age group,

Alderley Edge strives to be an inclusive club so we value ALL our junior members and aim to give them all a positive, enjoyable and fun hockey experience. I am always available to discuss and listen to feedback from parents.

teams amd matches

For 11-a-side teams, Alderley Edge will run two boys U15 teams (Badgers), and an U13 boy’s team (Beavers), on Saturday afternoons on most weekends throughout the season, apart from school holidays.
U15 Girls who are 13 or above, will be able to play for the Ladies teams also on Saturday afternoons. In addition, Girls U15 and U13 plus Boys and Girls  U11’s will have 7-a-side matches on Sundays, approximately once a month in the Greater Manchester Junior League at Belle Vue, Manchester.
We are also hoping to organise a few additional matches for our U13 girls plus our U11 boys and girls, again on Sunday mornings.

The picture above is the AEHC under 13 girls squad training for the first time on THE EDGE, Sunday 16th October 2011

AEHC run seven Men’s league teams and six Ladies league teams. A large proportion of the Ladies, and the Men's 5th team, comprise mainly teenagers and function as our talent development poolsfor the our top Men’s and Ladies sides.  The ‘Hockey Academy at Alderley’ aims to develop children to the maximum of their ability....from Edgehogs to Wizards and beyond!

We recommend that all juniors are properly kitted out with Club kit

Juniors kit should be ordered from Kirsty Hughes

During the colder months appropriate warm, wet weather wear is required plus children should always come kitted out with shin guards and gum shields.

I would also like to encourage all parents to join the club as social members at a very modest cost.

We have a great junior section at Alderley Edge but to continue this requires volunteers to help organise,  coach and umpire the kids. We are constantly looking for willing parents who want to get involved, so please I urge you to step forward and invest a little time into our junior hockey – it's great fun and very rewarding. We can help signpost you to England Hockey coaching  and umpiring courses if you wish.

Your kids will never forget their experience – why not be part of it!
