A very warm welcome to Alderley Edge Hockey Club!
Hockey is a high-energy sport that improves players' pace, agility and lower body strength. As it requires constant movement, you can burn approximately 560 calories per game.
As a vigorous form of cardiovascular exercise it increases lung capacity, allowing more oxygen to be delivered to the organs in the body.
The effort of using a hockey stick strengthens the triceps, forearm and shoulder muscles, while the dynamic movement required to get across the pitch boosts the hamstring and calfs.
As hockey is a team game, it is an excellent way to develop communication skills and learn to work effectively with other people.
As a leading North West Hockey club we also offer a variety of social events beyond simply playing the sport.
Alderley Edge Hockey Club is 125 years old, one of the oldest and most successful Hockey Clubs in Cheshire, founded in 1888.
We run 7 Men's and 6 Ladies sides as well as a number of junior teams.
Both on and off the pitch the club has seen substantial developments over the last few years culminating in being awarded England Hockey Board 'Club of the Season" 2011 - we also won Cheshire Sports Club Of the Year in both 2012 and 2013 and the Cheshire East Sports Club of Year 2012 and 2013. We were also runners up in the 2011 and 2012 European Hockey Club Of the Year award given by The European Hockey Federation.
We finished building our own pitch which was opened on Sunday 23rd October 2011 . We now have a strong focus on providing hockey coaching and playing opportunities for the local community at all levels of ability.
With our thriving Men’s and Ladies Sections, a tremendous Junior Section branded the ‘Hockey Academy at Alderley’ ,' Back to Hockey' and RUSH Hockey initiatives and a Men's Veterans side, the Club can provide hockey for all ages and standards. Why not 'GIVE IT A GO' at The Edge?
Alderley gained ‘ClubsFirst’ status in 2010 to demonstrate its commitment to all-round excellence, providing a safe,effective and child friendly club environment.
The Ladies 1st XI team play in the North League structure.The Ladies 2nd team along with the 3rds, 4ths, 5ths and 6th teams all play in the Cheshire Women's leagues.
The Men’s 1st team play in North Premier League. The 2nd XI were promoted to North League Div 2 West for season 2013-2014..
The Men's 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th team all play in the North West Hockey leagues.
The Junior Section, ‘Hockey Academy at Alderley’ has flourished, and is one of envy in the North hockey world.
Alderley Edge U14 girls are Cheshire and North Champions and finished third in the National Championships at Beeston on Sunday 12th May 2013.
The Boys U18 reached the National finals of the EHB Plate finishing third.
