ALDERLEY EDGE JUNIOR HOCKEY
Information for Children and their parents for the season 2007 - 2008
A very warm welcome to the club. We aim to give you sufficient basic information to enable you to obtain the most out of your coaching and membership of the club.
Alderley Edge Hockey Club is widely acknowledged to have one of the best junior development programmes in Cheshire and has a strong record in county, regional and national competition. We were Cheshire U21 men’s champions in 2006. We were also boys U13 Cheshire, North, and National Champions in 2002, U13 Cheshire and North Champions in 2003 and U11 Cheshire Champions last season, in March 2007. We also supply boys and girls to county and regional teams: Cheshire have been boys U15 National Champions in 2003-4 and 2004-5, each time with three Alderley players. Our U13 girls reached the semi-finals of the Cheshire Minis in 2005, whilst many other club members play at the same time for various school sides in the mini tournaments. Last season, our U15 girls and U18 boys reached the last sixteen of their national plate and cup competitions respectively.
All training sessions are supervised by qualified coaches. AEHC is working towards accreditation under the Clubs First scheme run by England Hockey.
Junior age group qualifications
The England Hockey Single System for Hockey change in age group qualifications will be in place from 1 September 2007. This change means that the age group qualification date has changed for all hockey apart from school based competitions from 1 September each year, to 1 January. This therefore means that from 1 September 2007, to be eligible for competitions or County Squads at
- Under 13, you must be U13 on 1 January 2008
- Under 14, you must be U14 on 1 January 2008
- Under 15, you must be U15 on 1 January 2008
- Under 16, you must be U16 on 1 January 2008
- Under 17, you must be U17 on 1 January 2008
The club is therefore changing its own age group qualification dates to conform with this change.
Teams and matches
For 11-a-side teams, Alderley Edge runs a boys U16 team (Badgers), an U15 girl's team and an U13 boy’s team (Beavers). Boys matches are held on Saturday afternoons, on most weeks throughout the season, apart from half terms. Girls matches are often on Sunday mornings. Pushback on Saturdays is usually 2.30pm onwards, to allow for school matches in the morning. U15, U13 and U11 7-a-side matches are held on Sundays, approximately once a month.
AEHC run six mens league teams and three ladies teams, with the ladies second and third teams being largely developmental sides. One of the men's teams comprises teenagers under an experienced coach and functions as the talent development pool for the club's top three men's senior teams. Badgers are promoted to this squad as appropriate. U15 girls can, and do, play for the ladies second and third teams.
Your co-ordinator will advise you if you are selected and wherever possible, details of tournaments, matches etc will be posted on the website. A match fee is payable on the day. Please bring it with you to the match if you are selected.

Holiday coaching breaks
There will be coaching breaks over the October and February half terms and the Christmas holiday period, details of which will be posted on the website and confirmed by the coaches.
What to wear and bring with you to matches and coaching
The club colours are black and white. There are black shirts for home games and white for away. Socks are black and white. Shorts or skirts should be black. For those who do not yet have club kit, it will be available in due course from the Club Manager John Berry from a club supplier to be arranged. Please ensure that you also bring with you a tracksuit, a rain top and a hat and gloves for cold weather. A cold drink would also be a good idea as there are no refreshment facilities at the pitch. As hockey involves a stick and a hard ball, you must have a mouth guard and shin pads for coaching and matches. The club takes safety very seriously. For those of you who do not already have a mouth guard or an available dentist, a qualified dentist will be available at Wilmslow High School on a Sunday in September 2006, who will take fittings and orders on presentation of a cheque. Details will be advised.
Please arrive promptly for the start time of coaching in order that the group warms up together. Coaching and matches will take place in all but the worst weather when you will be informed either via the website or via your co-ordinators of any cancellations. Parents need to check with a coach at the pitch that coaching is on, before leaving their child.
Membership
You are welcome to come along for two trial sessions of coaching, but we ask you to become a member after that.
