Stuart Murray, Head Coach ran a Tennis Leaders course for some our our older juniors in December. Many of our youngsters help the coaches as part of the Duke of Edinburgh awards, and some them go on to complete their LTA Coaching qualifications Well done to all those who attended and received their Tennis Leaders Certificates. Floodlights - Tip for Members - if the token meter is showing ‘free’ follow the instructions below

Main Image
When the coaches are using floodlight courts, they operate the override key on the token meters to put the floodlights on, and the display on the meter then reads free. A problem can arise if on your arrival you put your tokens into the meter when it is on override/free. This is because in this mode the meter will not register your tokens. The net result is you have lost your tokens and when the coaches vacate the court and remove the override, either you or the coaches (on your behalf) need to go to the clubhouse to get replacement tokens. This is inconvenient and costs time for either party, and the coaches may have a lesson straight after on another court. The solution we propose, and we believe some of you are doing this already, is that on arrival, if the token meter for your court is showing free please give your tokens to the coach. When he goes past the meter cupboard the coach will remove the override and then put your tokens in the meter. Enjoy your floodlit tennis!      See full story...

Cancelling Floodlight Bookings

Main Image
A reminder - if for any reason you cannot use your floodlit booking - then please CANCEL it. By releasing a slot you cannot use an opportunity to play is made available to other members. The income is also very important to the tennis section - to repay loans for the new courts and floodlights and to invest in future facilities. Please CANCEL as far in advance as you can as then the slot is more likely to be used. If your booking is part of a block booking, please contact David Killworth (07802 788436) who can cancel the court for you - otherwise you can cancel it yourself. Also please let David Killworth know if you spot any faults on the floodlights so they can be remedied promptly. Have fun!      See full story...

Social Tennis in Winter Months

Main Image
A few reminders about Social Tennis in winter months: - There will be no Organisers on a Saturday during the winter season - So tennis balls need to be collected by whoever arrives first and returned at end of play - Also the courts need to be swept by the last people playing - On Wednesday evenings Gill Walmsley and Alan Hancock have kindly agreed to record who attends and manage the floodlight tokens. Thanks to Gill and Alan - There is a charge of £3 per session for floodlit club-night sessions on Wednesdays (with lower sums charged when the lights are switched on half way through the evening). This will be billed to you approximately two or three times during the winter months and you are asked to pay promptly - On Saturday afternoons as they become darker, if you wish to play under floodlights on the club afternoon courts (courts 4-6 from 4.30pm - 6pm), then please use your own tokens. (In other words - club tokens will not be used for this period). - On Wednesdays courts 1, 2, 4, and 5 will be available for floodlight play from 6-8pm. Court 9 has also been booked from 6.30-8pm so that 5 courts are allocated to club-night.      See full story...
