AECC Tennis Grass Courts Conversion
Presentation of the project will take place
Wednesday January 18th at 7.30 pm
We are hoping that 2017 will be the year
we take a big step towards making AECC Tennis
a destination club in the North West
boasting great facilities and, in the process,
creating a modern tennis club.
Scope of project
Members learnt in the newsletter last month that the committee has successfully sought approval “in principle” from the General Committee for the Grass Courts Conversion and Floodlights Installation Project.
At the moment members are hampered because the grass courts can only be used for around 50 days of the year. Only three sets of floodlights for 650 members imposes further restriction over winter months.
This is a big project which represents a significant investment, not least financial, but we believe it will deliver transformatory change for the benefit of everyone who plays tennis under the Edge.
We want tennis members to be able to throw their support behind the project in the New Year. There will be much to do but, before then, you need to know what is being proposed.
We are intending to publicise the plan in some detail shortly after the festive period. In essence, the project means converting the grass courts to an all weather surface, providing floodlights on four courts (1,2,4 and 5) closest to the cricket square, and turning the temporary lights on Court 14 (adjoining Mottram Road) into permanent lighting.
Altogether it will bring into play the three grass courts in the mid section and a doubles and singles court on the upper tier.
The aim is simple, to encourage more people to play tennis all year round long after dark.
The club has long suffered from the paucity of facilities on offer to juniors who learn and play tennis at the club. We would also be able to reach out to local schools with a view to future membership.
There are already some major fundraising events in the diary, including a Spring Marquee Ball on March 31. There is also a Ladies Tournament and lunch on March 29.
All members are invited to attend a presentation in the clubhouse on January 18 at 7.30pm where the project team will be available to take and answer questions. (Please note this date has been changed and was previously publicised as the 17th)
PLEASE PUT THIS DATE IN YOUR DIARIES - JANUARY 18. THIS IS YOUR CLUB. THIS IS THE DAY TO HAVE YOUR SAY.
