A fantastic junior tennis pre-season kick off day was held on Sunday 25th February at the club for juniors aged 3-18.
Nearly 70 players took to six courts in brilliant sunshine, including over 20 children who were new to the club.
Allan Morton, our assistant coach, helped out by a number of our teenage players supervised an hour of tennis activities for the tiny tots and mini tennis players. This was followed by 'family' time on court with very many of the adults and children staying on to play for a further hour.
Meanwhile Stuart Murray our Head Coach ran the session for the children aged 10 and over. Stuart's new 'swing ball' game was a great hit (excuse the pun!) - and the other tennis drills were also much enjoyed. The speed-gun contest was won by Toby Jackson.
And on courts 9 and 10 we had 12 couples playing in the red-ball Quorn Family Tennis Cup.
This was an event where children aged 10 and under partnered up with a relation who was over 18, and competed on a mini red tennis court. The event was played in brilliant spirit with some amazingly long rallies and many hard fought close tie-break games. A great fun event which we hope will be repeated in future years. The eventual winners (after two series of round robin matches) were Katie and Anthony Morrow. The runners-up were Kit and Hugh Campbell. Katie and Anthony will now be invited will be invited to an LTA Staged Grass Court event in June where they will also play winners from other clubs.
We hope that everyone who attended had a great time - and we now look forward to seeing everyone on court in the weeks to come.
Junior Club night for members over 7 years old starts again this coming Friday (2nd March) at 5.30-6.30pm and junior match-play sessions continue on Sundays - link to dates of match-play sessions.
I look forward to another successful season of junior tennis and I've already put in a similar order for brilliant sunshine for next year's event!
