Junior match report (week to Sunday, 8th May)
The U15 CCL team continued its winning start to the season with a hard fought match away at Bowdon on Sunday morning.
Alderley won the toss and elected to bat. The Bowdon bowlers were immediately under pressure as Alderley’s opening pair of Stan Price and Christian Smith began brightly scoring 41 without loss off the first 5 overs. The scoring rate slowed as Stan was out and Christian retired not out for a well-made 35 off 26 balls.
Bowdon’s bowlers gained a foothold in the game by removing Alderley’s middle order cheaply, before Alfie Usher and Sam Booth stabilised the innings with a solid partnership of 28. Alderley’s innings closed on a slightly disappointing 107 for 6 off 20 overs.
The Bowdon reply got off to a good start with their openers putting on 28 before Zac Thompson was out well caught by Sam Booth off the bowling of Simon Shadwell. This combined with some tight bowling from Simon and Christian Smith slowed the run rate significantly and Bowdon found themselves well behind the require rate after 10 overs. Alderley kept a tight rein on the innings by taking wickets at regular intervals as Dan Woolf, Alfie Usher and Max Clarke all contributed with the ball. At the end of the 19th over, Bowdon were left requiring 16 to win; a run out and a wicket and only 4 runs off the bat in the last over meant Bowdon fell well short of the target.
AECC won by 11 runs.
