Courts Opening 29th March

Our tennis courts will be open from 29 March for singles and doubles social play, 1:1 coaching and formally organised activity for groups, including group coaching.  Please note that we continue to welcome squash members to play while the squash courts are closed.

Please remember that you must have paid your subscriptions before March 29th in order to be able to book a court, or to be named as a player on court.  You must have a court booking before you play.

There are still some outstanding questions that the LTA will confirm in the coming days about:

  • Whether toilets can be accessible
  • The maximum size of the groups for coaching
  • The sizes of the groups for social play (so not sure yet if we can run social tennis from March 29th)
  • Specific guidelines regarding competitions

We will send out further information as soon as it becomes available.

The summary information provided by the LTA can be seen on this grid.

Here are the latest details from the LTA

Exercise to the 'Grand Slams' Challenge

65 Athletes, 787hrs of exercise, 5641m (9079km)

Stuart Murray has set us a lockdown challenge to collectively take part in the 'Exercise to the GRAND SLAMS' Challenge.

The aim is that during this lockdown, everyone should record even the smallest, walk, run or bike ride, to our 'Club page' on the Strava App, so we can see how far the members of the club can travel together as a team.  This is a team effort to show what we can achieve as a community.

We have already visited Wimbledon (207.4m), the home of the French Open - Roland Garros (480.5m) and Flushing Meadow in the US (3338m). Our next target is Melbourne Park where the Australian Open is played (10543m) and we are over half way there now. Let's aim to be there before March 29th.  There is still time to help us reach our target!

To join, click on this link, download Strava onto your mobile phone and then 'record' each exercise activity.

Stuart and the Tennis Section will be reporting regularly on progress:

And if you are interested in other lockdown challenges / exercises, then have a look at Stuart's fantastic videos created during lockdown periods on Stuart's YouTube Channel

Looking forward to seeing where we are next week!

Replacement of Astro on Courts 1-3 with Artificial Clay

Courts 1-3 are now ready for play - and looking great.  You will note when you book the courts when we return to play we have changed their names on the booking system - they are now 'clay' rather than 'astro'!

I look forward to seeing you all soon.
